Glasgow - Something For Everyone

thumb_953459_25907356Scotland’s largest city has something for everyone, from great shopping to stunning architecture.

It’s not hard to see why Glasgow is promoted as “Scotland with Style” – from the iconic architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh to some of the best shopping in Scotland, Glasgow’s got style in abundance.

For the dedicated fashionista there’s a host of designer boutiques, independent outlets and big name stores, offering plenty of opportunities to shop in style.

If you prefer to socialise the city has a wide range of bars, clubs and restaurants to suit every taste – and budget. As you would expect from the city that spawned bands as diverse as Wet Wet Wet and Franz Ferdinand (to name just two), Glasgow has a thriving music scene, offering everything from international stars playing the city’s arenas to emerging talent starting out in one of the numerous smaller clubs and venues. There is also a lively comedy scene and a host of theatres where you can see everything from big name musicals to works by new writers.

The city is, of course, famous for its architecture – the legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is evident in buildings such as the iconic Glasgow School of Art to the charming Willow Tea Rooms. The city is also home to a number of stunning new buildings such as the quirky Armadillo (Clyde Auditorium). Hardly surprising then that the city was named UK City of Architecture in 1999.

This much-loved attraction is home to works by Dali, Rembrandt and Titian, as well as artifacts from Ancient Egypt and plenty of interactive and hands-on exhibits to amuse and enthrall children of all ages.

The city is home to numerous new and established businesses, a variety of conference and exhibition spaces, and – as the base of BBC Scotland, STV, numerous newspapers and a range of radio stations – is seen as the heart of Scotland’s media industry.

From fashion to football, bands to ballet, shopping to site seeing – and everything in between – Glasgow is the place to be. No matter how long you stay you’ll discover something new, and another reason to return very soon!
